Biohazard cleanup in Loretto, Tennessee

Cleanup in Loretto: what shapes the work

The old downtown includes the 1920s Bank of Loretto building and the Loretto Milling Company, in business since 1895. Older commercial buildings often have layered flooring and plaster, and cleanup there means deciding which historic materials can be cleaned in place.

State Route 227 continues south into Alabama, and the city sits close to the Shoals. Some properties belong to owners or heirs who live across the state line; in those cases, access and decisions are arranged by phone and email with whoever has authority over the property.

Before help arrives

1. If someone is hurt or has died, call 911 first. Inside city limits the Loretto Police Department responds; outside them, the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office.
2. Do not clean anything yet. Wait until the scene is released, and avoid household cleaners on blood or fluids.
3. Close off the area. Shut the door, keep children and pets out, and turn off fans blowing toward the room.
4. Write down the case or report number and the agency name. Your insurer and the property owner may need it.
5. Call us when you are ready. We will explain what is involved before anything is agreed.
