Working in Kentucky
New Dawn serves Kentucky as part of an eight-state area and schedules jobs from Tennessee. We do not have an office in every state. Call and we will tell you plainly how soon we can reach your location.
Every job follows the same steps: a call, a look at the site once police or the medical examiner have released it, a written scope and price, the cleanup, and a written summary.
What this means for New Dawn in Kentucky

Licensing for cleanup companies
We did not find a Kentucky law that licenses or registers crime scene or trauma cleanup companies as such. Ask any company you consider what permits it holds for hauling and disposing of waste.
Drug lab and meth-contaminated properties
Law enforcement reports meth labs to the local health department, and a contamination notice is posted on the doors. Only contractors certified by the Energy and Environment Cabinet may decontaminate (401 KAR 101:010). The cleanup standard is 0.1 microgram per 100 square cm (401 KAR 101:040). The Division of Waste Management issues a Release Letter after cleanup.

Medical and biohazard waste
Kentucky has no stand-alone medical waste regulations; oversight is shared. The EEC Division of Waste Management permits medical waste transfer stations and landfills, health facilities must treat medical waste under Cabinet for Health and Family Services rules, and haulers register with the Transportation Cabinet and report annually to each county served (form DEP 5033).

Help paying for cleanup after a crime
Yes. Kentucky's Crime Victims Compensation Board, within the Office of Claims and Appeals, lists crime scene cleanup as a compensable expense, capped at $2,000. The overall award cap is $50,000.

Who investigates a death
Kentucky uses a coroner system. Each county elects a coroner who investigates coroner's cases and may order autopsies (KRS Chapter 72). The State Medical Examiner's Office, in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet, assists coroners.
Workplace safety rules
Kentucky runs an OSHA-approved State Plan, Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health, in the Education and Labor Cabinet's Department of Workplace Standards. It covers most private employers and state and local government. Federal OSHA keeps federal employers, maritime work, TVA sites and military bases. The Bloodborne Pathogens standard applies either way.

Repairs and contractor licensing
The Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction licenses or certifies plumbers, electricians, boiler contractors, and sprinkler and fire alarm contractors. A statewide general contractor or home improvement license was not confirmed; local rules may apply.
